SUSPICIOUS FIRES
ALARM IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, June 17. Fear of jin i ll cenc!i.arist who is Relieved lo be operating in the Blackwood district in the Adel,aide Hills, 15 miles from Adelaide, has lately caused residents to sleep outside, their homes to protect them. A constant patrol was being maintained by police. Early one morning a fire at the Scout Tlall, Blackwood, was noticed in time to save the building from destruction. Two days earlier the Church of England Parish 'Hall was destroyed by fire. On May 13, the Blackwood Cold Stores were burned, and damage estimated at £19,000 done. Other outln-c ik K reported include a house destroyed in January.
Following investigations ’by detectives from Adelaide, it is believed that a number f recent smaller fires which were not reported, as their cause was considered accidental, were caused dolibrately. The suspect uppe rs to hive a knowledge of the district and the movements of the police.
