PROTEST URGED

AGAINST NEW MILFORD ROAD (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) GISBORNE, June, 19. Adverse comment on the action of the Government in spending a large sum of money on the Eglinton Valley Read to Millord Sound, which was used mostly for pleasure, not withstanding that the UnemploymentFunds are to be utilised, was made at a meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce to-day, and the speakers suggested a protest to the Government.

The speakers said that it required three hundred thousand to put the Napier-Wairga line in order, but the ■Government were spending two hundred and fifty thousand pounds on a road merely for a scenic route. After discussion it was decided to write to the district M’s.P. asking them to place the needs of-the district before Parliament, with, special emphasis on the requirements for railing communication.
