IN N. AUCKLAND PROVINCE (Per Press Association, Copyright). AUCKLAND, June 19/ A heavy north-east gale has raged from an early hour this.morning,, with torrential rain,. North Auckland has experienced the full force of the storm,-which has caused serious flood-., ing of many areas. The seas in Auckland harbour were very high, and the. ferry boats were severely buffeted. Slips and washouts have dislocated / railway communication with places Perth of Swanson. The most serious trouble was a large slip in the early afternoon at the .northern end of, Waitakere Tunnel, where about 400 cubic yards of material came down, covering the line for two chains to a. depth of from six to eight feet. • Tlie express which. left. Auckland for Whangarei became marooned, with its 70 passengers, near Knnohai, about two miles north of Kaukapakapa... Temporary repairs were subsequently effected to .the . wash out, and the express was able to return-to Helensville.
Many, of the -passengers.. were- sent to local hotels to spend the night, and Ifce. .'.remainder were made comfortable hi.the carriages of the train and in the railway, station.,
