It i s understood that a visit of the Duke of Gloucester to the Coast ou the occasion of his New Zealand tour is assured. The first annual reunion of the Ross sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, was held on Saturday evening, and was both successful and enjoyable. The president, (Mr J. Davis) presided over the gathering at which were also present members of the Hokitika branch, to whom a cordial welcome was extended. The work of the Hokitika branch during the year, and their activities in connection with unemployed “Diggers” was outlined by Messrs W. E. Brown and R. Paterson. Ladies’ winter coats, fashion rights, and remarkable value, smartly furred and beautifully cut in all the leading shades. Now on display m Addisons’ showroom.—Advt. There are further signs of activity in the sawmilling industry in South Wetsland. At the Big Wanganui, a Auckland company is to erect a mill at the mouth of the river, it is expected it will be operating by the end of the year. The plant may be taken down by scows which could enter the river, as was done in years gone by when a steamer brought up piles for the Hokitika protection works. After the establishment of the mill, the product will be brought by tramway to La Fontaine road, and thence carted to tbe Ross railhead. At Wataroa and Waitangi also there is a definite move with regard to timber export, and in two or three months’ time the timber will be coming northwards for export.
