WEDDING BELLS
The wedding was solemnised at St Patrick’s church, Greymouth yesterday afternoon of Evo Margaret (Peggy), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. McGirr, Tainui Street, to Vernon Howard, son of Mrs and the late Mr Robert Messenger, of Blaketown. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Holohan; The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a frock of ivory chiffon velvet, fitting to the knees, and falling in soft folds to tile ground. The frock had long tight fitting sleeves and. 'a spray of pink velvet lillies were worn 1 high on the left shoulder. A veil of silk net, with a- deep border of angel skin lace, caught with orange blossom buds, fell to form a train, and she carried a sheaf of white chrysanthemums. and abutilions. The bridesmaids' Misses Vonnie McGirr and Iso-, line Messenger wore slim fitting frocks of cameo pink ripple velvet with bandeaux of gold tissue and leaves and carried shower bouquets of gold chrysanthemums and marigolds. Two little maids Lorna McGirr and Nancy McGirr wore long frocks of hyacinth blue ripple velvet with gold head bands. They carried posies of gold chrysanthemums. Mr Phil Duffy was best man and Mr Frank McGirr, brother of the bride, groomsman. The reception was held in Perotti Hall, where the bride’s mother received numerous guests. When Mr and Mrs V. 'H. Messenger left for Christchurch on their honeymoon, tiro bride wore n frock 'and hat of lido blue metalasse with a tailored coat of grey bouclie.
