WAGE RESTORATION

The City Council has decided to restore the salary and wages “cuts” to its employees to the extent of 5 per cent on £250. In making his recommendation, the Mayor (Mr Hutchison), slid that while any opinion regarding the future must he more or less speculative, there was reason for believing that they had now experienced the worst phase of the economic malady, and that the restoring of some of the temporary impositions was justified. “I regret that a complete restoration would not yet he prudent,” added Mr Hutchison, “but I have pleasure in recommending that the salaries and wage “cuts” be restored to the extent of 5 per cent on £250 or part thereof, of each employee’s salary or wages. This will involve th,e stun of £59558 on the rating accounts, £1095 on the loan accounts, and £2170 on the trading accounts, a total of £9823.” The Mayor said that the restoration of the “cut” would be retrospective from April 1.
