THE COMPETITIONS

HOKITIKA PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting was held at the County Chambers la s t evening to consider the future activities of the •,Society. There ‘was an attendance of fixteen (ladies ,and gentlemen'; An apology was received from the Miyor. Mr H. J. Evans was voted to the chair. The chairman outlined the ■ financial position of the Society, the .resources . of which were now almost exhausted. The balance in hand after meeting all liabilities ‘was about £4. Before the committee felt justified in holding another festival it was thought expedient to liaise at least £SO, as a guarantee to carry through successfully. Suggestions had been made for .raising the' money by a ball and a two nights’ vaudeville entertainment, and it was thought both ' means would be successful.
