MELBOURNE JOCKEY SEARCHED. MELBOURNE, May 6. At Ascot -races the Ascot Five Hundred resulted Phenomenon (Gann) 1, Fourth Battery 2, Call Bird 3. Won by half a length. Time 1.6-J. As the horses were going to tjie barrier for the Encourage Handicap, t-he Stipendiary stewards ordered the jockey of one horse to dismount, and searched hj s clothing. He made a thorough inspection of Ins whip, but nothing was discovered. The horse was unplaced. BIG STAKE WINNINGS. NEW YORK, M*y 5. .At Baltimore, .Equipoise .won the Dixie Handicap easily. The purse of 4194 dollars brings his total earnings to 332,960 dollars, or slightly in excess of Phar Lap’s and within striking of Sun Beau’s all-time record of 376,744 dollars. THE KENTUCKY DERBY. NEW YORK. M-v 5. At Louiscvillo, Mrs Dodge Sloane s Cavalcade won the sixtieth annual running of the Kentucky Derby. Mr .Vlfrcd Vanderbilt’s Discovery was second, and A gran an was third. The time was 2.04 for the mile and ,aduarter. The winner has earned 28.1 1 5 dollars. A crowd of 60,000 thousand witnessed the race. The track was slow, with heavy rain.
