BRITISH QUOTA
AN ULTIMATUM TO JAPAN (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) * LONDON, May 4. The Rt. Hon Walter Ruriciman, president of the Board of Trade, has informed the Japanese Ambassador, Mr Tsuneo Matsudaira, that'Britain would be compelled to put quotas into operation, failing an agreement. He assured Mr Matsudaira that Britain would take this action with reluctance.
Mr Matsudaira had no new proposal to put forward, and accepted the formal declaration which was cabled to Tokio.
