HOKITIKA D.H.S.

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETINGThe monthly meeting of the. Hokitjfca District High 'School Committee was held last evening when there were present Messrs !A. C. Armstrong (chairman), W. IT. Shannon, A. McDougall, ill. Decider, J. Conning, J. J. Breeze and the Rev. G. A. Naylor. The Canterbury Board forwarded a circular regarding proposed refresher courses in physical exercises for teachers in the West Coast district. The suggested dates for teachers in Westland area were June 7, 8. and 9 at Hokitika. The dates were approved, it being decided, as requested that the School be closed on these days.

The Health Department wrote asking whether .a dental clinic had been formed as distinct from the School Committee. The chairman said there was no separate committee, the secretary being instructed to reply to this effect. Mr T. Nutt-all, the committee's representative on the Canterbury Primary School Committees’ Association, acknowledged the Committee’s appreciation of his services.

Nurse 'Robertson reported 177 operations at the clinic during Alpi'il. Children from the Hokitika, Kaihinu, and Convent Schools had been treated during the month.

The Rector reported that the roll number remained unaltered. The average attendance in the primary department was below the number required. it being the first time during his office. The roll number, however, did -not leave much margin. Just what it would mean, he did not know. There had not been a definite outbreak of measles, but there h?-d been isolated eases and >a fair amount- of other illness during the term. Tile secondary sc**oo. average attendance was above the pumber required. The secondary inspector had reported the organisation and standard of work quite satisfactory.

The. visiting committee made several recommendations which were adopted.
