SEVERE SHAKE
FELT IN WAIRARAPA NO DAMAGE IS REPORTED. (Per Press 1 ssociation — Copyright } MASTERTON, May 1. Rather a violent earthquake shock which was preceded by a rumbling roar, was felt here at 9.11 o’clock to-night. ’ ' No damage ds reporttd in any Part of the te.wn. The same report holds good also of the Wangaehu, Mauricer and other areas, which suffered more severely than did Mastcrton in the March ’quake. Inquiries by telephone over a w ide surrounding legion indicate an absence of damage, though the shock was a notably brisk one. At Greytown, a resident described the preceding roar as resembling a sharp report. An orchestra concert was in progress in the Masterton Municipal Hall when the shock came. The orchestra went on .playing. The audience stood up but only a. few . went out as the ahake subsided QUAKE JBT OTHER CENTRES. WELLINGTON, May 1A fairly sharp earthquake of several seconds’ duration was experienced here at 9.12 p.rri. There ds no damage. The Postmasters at Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Masterton advise, through the Post and Telegraph Department, that severe jolts were experienced there, but,there was no damage or interruption of communications.
