(Per Press Association.—Copyright.) NELSON, April' 7. In the Newman Shield cricket match Marlborough first innings sco r ed 272. •Nelson in the second lost nine wickets for 250. Neale made 104,-Al. Newman 5.1, and Freeman (not out) 20. Nelson, scoring 289, had a lead on the first innings of only 17 runs. The wire omits Marlborough’s chief scorers. Considerable interest has been taken in the closing stages of the 'Southern Cricket Sub-Association’s senior competition. Hokitika has maintained a lead over Kanieri and RuataPu throughout, and prior to last week-end, two matches- remained to be played, Hokitika having six points advantage over the two next teams. Hokitika met IRuatapu during the week-end, the latter making-59 after ;.‘a disastrous-start. Hokitika also made a poor commencement, losing. 5 for 11 before ra in set in causing the match to be abandoned. In Hokitika’s innings Wilson, for Raiatapu, secured the hat-trick.
