GOOD GROUNDS ARE NEEDED

(Per Press Association —Copyright).

CHRISTCHURCH, March 16

. Sir Charles Ivingsford Smith, interviewed after his flight over the Alps .from Westport yesterday, said it was th e most beautiful trip he had ever had in New Zealand. This was the first occasion on which the Southern Gross laid visited the Coa s t, 'and Sir Charles said that he had been most 1 cordially received. “Good landing grounds are wanted on the Coast,” said Sir Charles. “The people arc very keen on aviation and seem willing to spend money on providing proper grounds.” ■He had inspected a .possible landiing ground near the hospital at Grey mouth. It was right on the sea shore, and lie considered it the obvious place for big commercial machines. He did uiot think, however, that short passenger .flights should be allowed, owing to the proximity of the hospital. At present all That the D ruling ground needed was the extension of the runway.
