OBITUARY

The death took place at Eenniston, yesterday, of Mr Jack O’Loughlin at the age of 75 years. He was identified with both gold and coal mining, having worked on the Charleston field and at Woodstock, and also at - the State mines. For many years he had been the Official Clieckweiglitman for the Denniston Miner’s Union.

His wife died only four months ago, and lie is survived by a family of two sons, and seven daughters, and three brothers. ALEXANDER COWIE, The death took place-early this morning of Mr Alex Cowic, -of Stafford .Street, after a long' illness. The deceased was a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, w?,s 61 years of age, ancr nacl been resident in New Zealand for 43 years. In the dredging boom at the end of th-ji nineties he was a prominent dredgemaster, being in charge of the Mosqui-'o and Worksop dredges and then was a. part owner and master of the Greenstone dredge. Later he bed-me Iffie.nsee of the Post Office hotel, Hokitika, which he carried on successfully for nineteen years, retiring from business some five years ago owing to ill health. He has been in poor health for a considerable time past. He leaves a widow and family of one daughter (Christina), and one son (Alexander) to whom wide sympathy will be extended.
