SOLDIERS’ FARMS

WELLINGTON, December 1

Replying to points raised durng the discussion on the vote for discharged soldiers’ settlement account, Mr A. E. Ransom said that interest from loans amounted to £1,103,750. in the last financial year. There ; was . no danger of the security of the fund being jeopardised by the hypothecation of reserves.

The Minister said if members could show him individual oases in which tenants had not received a fair run, he would undertake.to reinstate them either on the same farm or on some other. Tenants who felt they were not getting a fair deal should make application to the Mortgagors’’ Relief Committee and the Government would be prepared to stand by the recommendation of that committee. In view of the unstable prices this- is; not the time when we can reasonably fix a revaluation for the next twenty-one years. He added: “I can give an assurance that Government intends, as soon as prices are reasonably stabilised, to deal with this question. The vote was passed.
