BRITAIN’S PROPOSAL FOR LEVY
TO PROTECT HOME PRODUCER,.
(United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright). '
LONDON, November 29,
A levy on imported beef, rouglny equal to the deficiency in payment necessary to ensure the Home producer a fair price for his meat was suggested by the Standing Committee on beef, to the council of agriculture. Tli© committee points out that the restriction of imports has not achieved the . rise ip prices, and expresses the opinion that tariffs are impracticable under the existing agreements, and would not be .effective owing to the large imports of Canadian live stock and Australian and New Zealand beef which, are duty free; therefore the levy is the best alternative.
