At Greymouth Magistrate’s Court a charge of abduction was laid against a young man, which in the afternoon was withdrawn, resulting from a young couple, the girl being under 18 years of age, eloping, against the wishes of the young woman’s father.

At the meeting of the- Transport Licensing Authority,, at Greymouth yesterday Mr, J. A. Murdoch, who was representing Newman’s Motors,! Ltd., stated that during the twelve months ended October 31, 1933, his clients earned a total of 1935 passengers over the route from Hokitika to Welieka, counting a return passenger as two. Mr A. R. Eicock, for the West Coast Motors Ltd., stated that during the same period his clients carried 828 passengers over the same route on the same basis. The A Vest Coast Motors, he said, carried three-quarters of the local passengers, while Newmans secured nine-tenths of the outside tourists!

At the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday before Mr A. Naylor, J.P. George William Nelson Wildermoth, was charged that, on November 27th, at Greymouth, smith intent to defraud, he did obtain from Charles Leonard Thompson, the sum of 10s, by falsely representing, that- he was “Sandy” Goodley, a railway employee, of Dunedin. Detective-Serge-ant T. E, Holmes asked for a. remand until Monday next, to enable further enquiries to be made, In reply to the Bench, the accused said that he had no objection, and the remand was accordingly granted.

The proprietors of Black and White whisky, Messrs J. Buchanan and Coy., of London, through their New Zealand representative, Captain Prictor, has presented the Westland Racing Club with a canteeii of cutlery as a trophy for the principal event at the forthcoming -Hokitika race meeting. The gift has arrived, and is being greatly admired. It will be on view at J. Brocklehurst’s, Revell Street. The useful gift lias been allocated to the Westland Cup of one mile, to be decided on the Hokitika racecourse on Boxing Day. Entries for this event, and for the meeting generally close on Tuesday evening next. Captain Prictor is expected to be a visitor to the Coast at Christmas, and will be present, it i s hoped at the Hokitika race meeting to present the handsome gift to the winning owner.

Late advice has been received regarding Arthur James Michael Cox, who left Hokitika some weeks ago to walk over the ranges to Canterbury via the Whiteombe Pass, and for whom a search was made when he was missing. It was stated that lie been located at Hororata, but it later transpired that it was at Glentunnol where he was located. He had safely negotiated the crossing of the mountains, but his food supply had given out, and he was almost exhausted from exposure and privation when he met a resident in that district. After receiving care and attention lie later went on to Christchurch. !
