Advice lias been received by the Greymouth Boxing Association that Harry Lister, whose recent fight with Bert Lowe in the Greymouth Town Hall, had so tragic and unfortunate an ending, has been matched to fight Vince Parker, at Timaru on November 23rd.

.Club to South Westland is indicative of the marked progress of that district. This combination has presented to Hokitika' and Greymouth .audiences some ex-
cellent productions and it is agreed by all that “Facing the Music” eclipses ail thbir past efforts. No doubt the good people of the South will encourage the Club to come again by giving them bumper houses which this year’s play •riqhly merits.
The total whitebait catch of the Dominion for the 1532 season was 4748 cwt. Hokitika district produced 3570 cwt, next ui importance being Westpoit (882cwt\ Grey (555 cwt), Auckland (514 cwt), Matainui, S'outh Westland (4.43 cwt.), Dunedin (456 cwt), and Christchurch (34cwt). The Dominion total is short of the actual quantity caught, because of the omission of catches on rivers not subject to inspection. The quantity of whitebait canned during the season was 117,000 lb.
Mrs Havili presided ever the usual monthly meeting of the Arahura Valley Woman’s Institute on Wednesday last at the residence of Mrs Bennitt. Two delegates and several members journeyed to Greymouth on October 2oth to be present at the formation meeting of the new West Coast Federation by Mrs Kelso. Topics regarding the meeting were freely discussed and all members were unanimously in favour on the election to office of treasurer of Mrs Mclntyre, Hokitika, on the new committee formed that day. It was very gratifying that such a capable lady was chosen for the post. In the competition for the best Xmas gift article costing not more than Is, Mrs Hewlett won with linen and moccasin tidies in a tie with Mrs W. Houston whose article was a neatly worked table centre. It was decided that members make a d’oyley for the competition at next meeting. On Saturday last, Mr and Mrs Henry Pope, of Iluru, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. Mr and Mrs Pope, who were married in Nelson, have ) family of four sons and six daughters, fifty-two grandchildren. and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom are living.
The Hokitika Women’s Institute met last evening in the Soldiers’ Hall when there were forty members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence read; and dealt with. Mrs Mclntyre and Mrs Paterson gave a report on the con orence held at Greymouth on October '25. Mrs Mclntyre was congratulated on election to the position of treasurer to the newly formed West Coast Federation. During the evening a talk o n border cultivation was given by Mr F. Groufsky and wa s greatly appreciated, and Mrs Harrison gave a very interesting lecture on artificial respiration. The roll call was “A cure for the Blues” and some very humorous cures were given which caused much laughter. A dainty supper was served by Mesdames G. Perry, It. Collett, A. Thompson, Ranger and Miss N. Thompson and folk dancing, indulg. ed in by many members, brought an interesting evening to a dose,
