Finishing 'full of vim .after, his 100 miles journey, E. Jones, of Christchurch, won the Round-the-Gorges race hold by the Papanui Amateur Cycling Club to-day, his time being shrs 7mins. R. W. Marks, of Papanui, was second. Marks and Jones rode together throughout the race, starting off the 35-minute mark. L. Fever, of New Brighton, was third. He stalled with a handicap of 28 minutes. Frank Grose again gained -fastest time, covering the journey in 4hr 33min 13see. j. L. Richards, of New Brighton, secured second fastest, time.
warnambool-melbourne race
MELBOURNE, October 15
The cycling road race, Warn am bool to Melbourne, over 165 miles, yesterday, provided the most exciting finish i. n the history of the race. Willoughby heat King by inches, with Anderson In It' a- wheel away third. Fastest time was secured by the unplaced udder, W. F. Stuart, from scratch, .6 hour s 27 minutes 56 seconds. Oppernian had a puncture, but them put up •second fastest time. There were 232 cyclists .riding in the event.
E. Milliken, the brilliant amateur cyclist, recorded the fa s test time in the Colac to Melbourne road race over a -hundred miles course, namely, 3 hours 51 minutes 44 seconds.
