COB DEN V. EXCELSIOR. The final senior game o fthe season took place on Cass Square on Saturday atternoon under very unfavourable conditions, the ground being almost a sheet of water following the heavy rain of the previous night and morn* jng, Overhead there was no rain, except for one or two light showers, The game suffered as a result of the wet the ball being very difficult to handle while dribbling rushes were frequently upset by the ball stopping dead in a pool of water.

Cobden proved the victors, winning by 11 points (three tries, one being converted) to 6 points (two tries). In the early stages attempts were made to handle, but hard tackling and following up proved the game for the day, and by this means Excelsiors scored two tries early in the game. Then they changed their tactics, at times attempting to pass, which repeatedly failed and much ground was lost. Before half-time Cobden went throught in a loose rush to score, and half-time came with the score 6 to 3 in favour of Excelsiors. In the second half Cobden showed to better advantage, and had more than their share of the play. Then the condition of Excelsiors gave way, and Cobden went over to score two more tries one of which Martyn converted. Excelsiors made, a strong bid to even up matters, but had left the effort too late, and time came with Cobden the victors by 11 to 0. The Excelsior tries were scored 'by Muir and Richards and for Cobden by Gordon, Brailsford and Scott. The game was for the McLean Cup for competition by the winners of the northern and southern senior com* Petitions.
