ATTACKS OX PROSPECTORS
MISSING MEN INCREASING
VANCOUVER, September 13
Ain increasing number of men reported missing in the Yukon i.s due to encounters with grizzly bears, in the opinion of officers of the North-West .Mounted Police, who. have investigated. Recently two attacks by bears came to notice. In one case, a prospector was partly devoured. In the other, a “Mountie,” who accompanied a Iprospecfor, saved his life, but. not until, the bear, taking them unaware, had seized the miner and borne him to the ground, 'breaking bis leg, before the officer could fire. >The ..police have issued a warning that the bears in the extreme North are apparently changing their'’pence ft! 1 habits “and attacking humans with provocation.
