PURSE SUBSCRIBED
BRAVE AUCKLAND CONSTABLE (Per Press Association—Copyright). AUCKLAND, October 11. A purse of £75, subscribed ‘by New Zealand motorists, for Constable Stewart, of Newton Stat on, who is still in the Auckland Hospital, suffei'ng from an injury received when attempting to 'arrest the driver of a stolen, motor car on September 19, was increased to £IOO, by a resolution passed at the annual meeting of the Auckland AutomoU le Association.
The resolution’ gave Council of Associate "n power to increase its share of the subscription from £lO to £35. Previously £SO bad 'been subscribed by tlie North I sand motoi'.ng associations. Several members consider the amount should be increased, to express in some measure the gratitude of motorists to Constable Stewart. A resolution was carried unanimously, desiring the Council of the Association to take every stop to make representations Hint would result in bringing the law for the stealing of motor cars up to the same level as that governing; the theft of any .‘other article.
