BOWLING

THE SEASON OPENED.

The Hokitika Bowling Club opened the season yesterday afternoon in line weather. The green was well Covered and looked well, hut was on the heavy side. There was a good attendance of lady visitors. The President (Mr C. J. King), in opening the season extended a welcome to the visitors, and expressed the hope that- the season would prove an enjoyable and successful one. He took the opportunity of presenting the Dnncan Cup to Mr D. Stevenson, th.3l winner oflast year’s singles championship, congratulating him on his success. Declaring the green open for the season Mrs King rolled up the jack and Mrs Breeze rolled up the first howl, amidst'' applause. A practice game followed some sixteen players taking part. Afternoon tea served by the ladies assisted to complete a very pleasant afternoon.
