ARRIVES AT AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, August 31
Escorted by a New Zealand seaplane and tw.o Australian flying boats, and led by His Majesty’s Australia and. :Canberra, four Warships .came up ‘Hauraki Gulf at the dawn of a perfect spring, day, and arrived in the harbour at- seven o’clock. -The Australia was followed by the Canberra and then .came the,Dunedin, theflagship of the -New Zealand division #nd the Diomede. The Dominion cruisers showed lip much smaller than their visitors, with,their high rakish masts and three funnels.
The Canberra, berthed at the central wharf ( the .Australia anchoring in the stream while, the New Zealand cruisers went to their-usual'berth at Devon.port. ' Official calls were paid this morning on Rear Admiral Dalgleish, by the Mayor and .chairman of the Harbour Board. The Australian visitors will stay a iweek and : a round of sports and social engagements have been arranged, including inter-squadron soccer, rugby, hockey ..and golf contests. Next Wednesday all four ships will leave for gunnery pretise in Hauraki gulf, with aircraft co-operating. x , The-Canberra and Australia will then sail for southern ports. Rear Admiral Dalgleish' who has been indisposed for several days left for Rotorua this morning, and is not, expected to return till next week. Keen interest is, being taken in the Australian vessels which will be open for public inspection at the week-end. , Amongst the officers at the Australia is Instructor Commander Moyes, who has been a member of three expeditions to Antarctica, with Mawson in 1911, Shacldeton relief expedition in 1917, and -Mawson in 1929.
