EARL OF EGMONT
BACK TO RANCH ANCESTRAL ESTATE FOR SALE. ( Unite.] Preso Association—’Ly Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WINNIPEG, April 24. The Earldom of Egmont is sharing the of these troublous times. The ancient title is passing under the influence of Canada’s much praised vast open spaces in her western domain. When the tenth ear] fell heir to the estate, with its castles and 'its broad acres, he was operating a ranch at Priddig, Alberta province- • and it was with some reluctance that he nnd his young son returned to the an*' cestral halls. The estate was heavily *n debt j and the new earl . had little liking for the social life that had open* him; his son was as a young growth transplanted to unsuitable soil, «nd both longed for the freedom of’ his ranch.
Som e time avo the tenth Earl of Egmont was killed in an automobile accident, and the son, a minor, . succeeded to the title. Instead, of entering into this new world in old surroundings, he hoy returned tj. the family ranch * at Prjddis, and marked the occasion by marrying ,a Western gir], an assistant in a dentist’s office in Calgary, Atlanta, endeavouring also to “cash Jn” on the ancestral treasures that had come t 6 him. Famous portraits of his ancestors are to’-'Ee sold at auction. There is no difficulty in understanding that a boy jborn and reared on a ; Western Canada r’nch would be ill at ease in one of “the stately homes of England.” He is not “to th e manor 'horn”—nor adaptable to the customs of the manor. Anyway, this youthful and ‘ democratic nobleman ha s his mind on the Canadian west rather than on the ancient home of the Percevals, his ancestors.
