LONDON, May 19,

'Following the decision to remove the Queen Victoria statue from the Dail Eireann, a Cosgrave Party member, Mr Grattan Esmonde, arrived bareheaded anu deposited at the foot of tile statue a wreath made- of cabbages, cauliflowers, leeks and rhubarb, solemnly saluted and entered the Dail.

Officials later removed the wreath, on which was the inscription: “Hail and farewell.” It is understood that Mr Esmonde’s motive was to register his contempt for the de Valeria, Party’s decision to remove the statue and replace it with a statue of. an Irish patriot.

It may be recalled that Mr Esmonde was expelled from Australia in 1921.
