CHRISTCHURCH, May 16,
A full inquiry by the Christchurch City Conucil into the qualifications of four of the candidates at the recent elections to be on the district electors’ roll is to be sought by the Christehuiteh Citizens’ Association.
The candidates whose qualifications are in dispute are : Miss Mabel Howard, Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., Rev. J. K. Archer and Mr G. T. Thurston. All of these were nominated by the Labour Party.
Mr E. J. Howard was elected to the Harbour Board, and the others were elected to the City Council. If the Association is not satisfied with the result of the Council’s enquiry, it has power to appeal to a magistrate.
All the four candidates live outside the boundaries of the city, but they are all enrolled. Some have residential qualifications at addresses in the city, to Which, it is alleged, they are not entitled.
