YESTERDAY’S POLL 11 Tal HOKITIKA. The polling day proceedings yester* day at Hokitika took place in unpleas* <ant weather conditions, rain falling at intervals throughout the day. This gated • against as large a .pell as was expected. There were three booths Town -Hall and one at St. AnHalf/ The Returning Officer , made an announcement of the Borough Council'' poll from the door of the Town Hall at 9.20 p.m. and than for the Hospital Board twenty minutes later. The following are the particulars : Borough Council.
Heonan, E. W. 216. 82 298 For the Hospital Board, two of the retiring members, Rev. Knights ana Mr Duff were re-elected. Mr McGavin, a new candidate, being elected and Mr E. W. Heenan a former member de- ■ feated. There was an unusual number of plumbers cast, one of the new members receiving a majority of them. After the Returning Officer had notified the results o fthe poll from the doorway, several of the successful candidates addressed a large crowd that h,;fl gathered, briefly thanking the electors for the support given them. \ KUMARA MAYOR DEFEATED. MR HAMER WINS CONTEST. 'At Kumara, Mr A. B. Spiers, who has been Mayor of that town for eight j ears, was defeated by Mr Henry Hamer by a comfortable majority, the voting being:— ■ Hamer, H. 138 ' Spiers, A.
