A visit to Vavau Island was made by their Excellencies, the Diomede entering the famous harbour yesterday m o rnirig. Conditions were 'ideal through, out the day, and a good, opportunity was sfforded to explore what i s recognised as the most beautiful island of th e Torigan groipp. Many charming .scenes greeted them as th e warship steamed up the harbour t 0 the town of Neiafu, which is the ■port and residence of the Governor. The town is beautifully situated, overlooking the harbour, and ha s 'quite a modern appearance. A cordial reception was extended the visitors by the native chief, local residents, and hundreds of natives .who were in pictures. que attire.

Characteristic songs and danc es were given with all the charm and grace of th e light-hearted native Islanders,' their delightful entertainment lasting some hours. Launch excursions we r c made to Shallow Cove on the coast, arid Kapa Island. This lovely spot is famou s alt over the world. The visitors were thrilled bv- unique experiences. Their Excellencies were entertained at dinner by. of ..the Diomede, - who Welcomed the guests with diverting kava ceremonies. Dinner was followed by amateur theatricals, in which topical sketches of a highly-amusing description were pre-. sent. Th e Diomede left Vavau at seven this morning \ and •- i g due at Samoa to-morrow.
