DESPERATE STAND JAPANESE SUFFER SETBACK. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SHANGHAI, March 10. Reports state China is making desperate efforts to recapture Chengtehfu in Jehol. There was serious fighting there throughout the night of Wednesday. The embassy secretary, Mr Crowe, and liis American wife have been arrested for photographing fortified zones. Newspapers state that 140 foreigners iare now listed ais suspects. Previous communiques, describing Japan’s incredibly small losses on the war fronts have been disproved by the arrival of many wounded. The Japanese casualties are now reported as heavy, owing to the difficulties of operations, and blizzards.
