The Secretary of the Mount David Sluicing Company reports tlia-t the altered methods adopted during tlie last few weeks not having resulted in the anticipated increase in- returns, there ha-s been a resumption of the previous methods used. For the last few 'days before this;resumption the return was 4dz. 9dwt.
tVETHERSTONES COMPANY. BIG DEVELOPMENT SCHEME. 5 DUNEDIN, March 7. At a statutory meeting oi the Wetherstones Gold Mining Company 'held- to-day the chairman, Mr James Fletcher, Announced that, the whole of the share capital had been over-sub-scribed to the' extent of 27,000 shares. The Cabinet had 'decided to grant a sum’of £oOCO for development work to prove the possibilities of' operating, the field on : mkss production lines- This work would be cafried but/under . the Supervision of the company’s'engineei, and the sinking of a vertical shaft, which was part of the Government’s plan of development, would- >be so placed as to connect with' the company’s incline shaft-. ■ ' Tenders were at present being called for’the supply of 250,000 ft of New Zealand timber, -and' this represented one , 0 f the largest orders placed .in Southland since the year of the Dune* din Exhibition. It was anticipated tlilit within two . months at least 50 men would be employed on the various Works of the company at- Lawrence, and a s soon as the necessary shafts and drives -had beell' eotnpleted the niimber of permanent hands would bo approximately 100. ! ’ It Was' anticipated that nine months would be required to compelte the whole of the development work to bring the' mine to the stage' of producing' at capacity.
