BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening at 7.30' o’clock.' Present: — [Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff, D. J. Evans, G. Heinz, A. Armstrong, and Dr. E. JFeichelmann. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs J. King, Stuart and Elcock. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. Inward Correspondence. From N.Z. Refrigerating Coy., intimating that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika during the month of October: —21 sheep, 23 lambs; and during November, 46 sheep, 41 lambs.—Received. From the Secretary, State Collieries Combined Picnic- Committee, asking for the use of Cass' Square for annual pic3,jc on Saturday, the 11th February, 1933. —Received. From J. F. Lumby, Timaru, asking for dates upon which picnics will be held in Cass Square.—Received. From the Secretary Auckland Suburban Local Bodies’ Association, drawing Council’s attention to proposed amendment in the Municipal Corporations Bill, 1932. viz:—Clauses 2 and Section 3 of Section 141, peitaining to the Union of Boroughs, and asking [that the Council take piompfc action a» ithe Bill will come before Parliament month. —Received.

From Secretary, Municipal Association, Wellington.—(a) Asking Local Bodies not to finalise or publish their lists of farm land until the sub-commit-tee set up by the Association have reported and the report has been discussed at the Municipal Conference.— j Received. j (b) Same, intimating that the Gov- j eminent has given an assurance that j upon the application of a local author- ' ity to specially invest instalments-of sinking fund under Section 5, Subsection 2, of the Local Authorities _ Sinking Fund Act, 1932, the authoris- j ing Order-in-Council will be issued as a matter of course, except in extra- J ordinary circumstances. —Received. | (e) Intimating that Municipal Con- , ■ ference of delegates will assemble at I Rotorua on the 2nd March, 1932.—Re- i ceived. From Chairman No. 12 Highways District, asking that the Main Highways be ; maintained in good order for holiday traffic. —Received. From W. E. From Municipal Association in connection with a bill consolidating the Municipal Corporation Act and Amendments. —Received. From F. J. Andrews asking for water connection to paddock.—Received and granted at £1 per year with cost for ! pipes. ! Reports. The Treasurer reported Receipts ! £532/1/2; payments £678/7/6; debit balance £525/15/5.-Received. Accounts amounting to £B7O/13/2 were passed for payment. I Foreman’s Report. I The Foreman (Mr F. Chesterman) I submitted the following report for the , period:— i Pipe making was continued for two i days at the beginning of the month, using up the remainder of the cement on hand. A new four inch pipe was I put in the water main in Camp St.; 1 water connections was put in to Mr Interman’s residence in Hampden fet.,, ! the water service lowered at the C’ome- ! t ery, where the recent widening took ; place. The County lorry was used for ' a week, with the grader and drag on
the different streets, grading and levelling. Eleven concrete pipes were put in on Jollie St. hill to allow the footpath to be graded. The drain leading from R. Davis’ at the corner of Sale und Stafford St. was repaired, a broken pipe being replaced. A drain leading into Fitzherbert St. main drain across the footpath was blocked, this was repaired ; also a drain across Sewell St. between Weld and Stafford St. .was blocked, this was cleaned out; and a blocked drain at the corner of Bealey and Hampden St. cleaned out. Five days were spent on the pipe line repairing between the reservoir and the lake, and a number of leaks about town attended to. The relief workers have been employed chiefly on the streets and footpath s cleaning up for Christmas under the supervision of Mr Gaylor. The depth of water in the reservoir for the month was 3ft 2in. The manager of the Abattoirs reported there were .slaughtered during December: 8 cows. 15 heifers, 44 bullocks, 247 sheep, 317 lambs, 7 pigs, 10 calves, i Condemned, 1 cow. Fees for month, £7O/14/6; (for same period last year, £73/14/6).—Received. It was resolved to enforce tne 10 per cent penalty on all unpaid rates. The Council rose at 8 p.m.
