Coolidge's death is said to b e . due to heart disease. Th e body w«g discovered by Mrs Coolidg-e when she returned from a shopping tour. It is believed that he had b e en dead about fifteen minutes when found. He went to his office this morning, but returned, accompanied by his secretary ■about ten o’clock.

(Received this day at 11.35 a.m,) NEW YORK, January 5. Mr Coolidge .wa* the thirtieth President of the United States, and was

sixty years of age last July 4, His death was wholly unexpected, though, for the past three weeks, he had complained of indigestion. Doctors eaid that death was due to heart failure. After a ishort time in his law office this morning, Mr Coolidge becam e distressed, and decoded to return home. M r Harry Ross, his secretary, r e turned with him to The Beeehe s estate, to which he retired at the conclusion of his pterin as president. Mr Coolidge assured Ross that he would be all right aft e r 'a short rest. After aiding Mr Coolidge to his bedroom, Ros s returned to the first floor.

Mrs Coolidge, returning twenty minutes later, was to,ld by Ross of her husband’s illness, and went immediately to the bedroom where sh e found the body. A doctor wa s quickly summoned, but lie said that Mr Cooßdge had been dead for , about fifteen minutes, apparently passing away a few moments after Ross had left the room.

Mr Coolidg e had been leading a quiet life. -since leaving the presidency. His day to day programme varied little, and he had not changed greatly despite a slight indisposition during the past three weeks. Ordinarily h e spent part of the day at his law office, w-ith occasional writing of magazine articles.

He emerged into public life several times recently. His work with the railroad committee naturally drew him forth to a considerable degree, <and on October 11, he was the principal speaker at the Republican overflow rally at Madison Square Garden. President Hoover formally notified Congress of the death of Coolidge in a special message in which he praised th. e 'deceased as having spent his life time "in devotion to our country and the welfare of- mankind.”

Calvin Coolidge wag 60 years of age, being born at Plymouth, Vermont, on July’ 4, 1872. He wa s elected Vice President of U.S. on November 2, 1920 and became President (on the death of Warren G. Harding) on August 1 3, 1923; was re-elected for further terms on November 4. 1924 and served until the en( f of 1929.
