JOCKEY FATALLY INJURED.

PALMERSTON N., December 5. When George 'Douglas Urwin, aged eighteen, an apprentice jockey, whoso parents reside at 'Foxtou, was riding a racehorse during exercise at -Hiwinui, Ashliurst, yesterday, the animal slipped and fell, rolling V>n the rider whoso head and body were • crushed, death being instantaneous.
OLD MAN DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, December 5. William Smith Fitzsimmons, aged 75 years, an old age pensioner, was drowned in the Murunui River yesterday, through falling over a bluff while walking along the track to his camp.
