NO ONE TO STARVE
MR COATES GIVES ASSURANCE,
M.P.’S ASKED TO NOTIFY
WELLINGTON, Novembef 26.
An appeal to members of Parliament to assist the Government by notifying eases of distress was made in the House last night by the Rt Hon. J. G. Coates.
“We have already said we shall not allow any man in ' this country to starve,” said Mi" Qgptes,.,in reply to strong criticism of, flic administration by Labour members and by Mr R. A. Wright (Govt., Wellington Suburbs). “Members must remember that vve are dealing with 70,000, and with such a huge number it is impossible for us to say if everyone is properly fed. If members know eases where people are starving, then let them give the cases to us. General statements are not good enough.” Mr Wright urged upon the Governni/ nt that unless the question was faced now, the time would come when it would have to be faced. “They only want a leader—a Napoleon among them,” said Mr Wright. “That time is coming.”
