FIRST TRIAL
5s TOTAL I SATO R AT RICCARTON.
(Per Press Association — Copyright.)
CHRISTCHURCH, November 22.
Christchurch will have its first experience of the five shilling totalisator, on Saturday, on the occasion of the North Canterbury Racing Club’s meeting at Riccarton. Although the machine has been adopted in several cases in the North Island, Amberley is the only place in the South Island which has up to the present made the experiment. Tickets will be sold in ss, 10s and £2 10s denominations and the usual percentage of dividends will rule. For the experiment the existing design of the'totalisator. need not be altepfed, 1 bmtv .ter sell £dr tickets - it- would be necessary to make structural alterations. These could be carried out at comparatively small cost if it were desired to make the, innovation permanent. The Canterbury Jockey Club fias considered the proposal for its own meetings but nothing definite has been done, the high overhead costs of metropolitan clubs putting them in a different position from country clubs.
