(Per Press Association Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, November 22.
It is possible that the Government will have to call ian emergency session early next year, according to a statement made by the Prime Minister in an interview this evening. This course might, have to be followed, he said, if there were no improvement in the prices of promiary produce in the near future. „
There has been a rumour in • Hlfe lobbies of Parliament for some time that the Government is concerned at the trend of events following on the recent decline in prices, after a temporary recovery. The return of Mr Downie Stewart late in the session makes it difficult to deal with the situation this year, but an opinion is growing that further 'dlrastic Government action is imperative early in the new year. Mr Forbes’ remarks to a deputation to-day that interest rates will have to come down indicate that legislative action in this direction is likely Mr Forbes was questioned concerning Mr Holland’s proposal concerning the setting up of a. Special Committee of experts and economists. Mr Forbes said that the Government did not consider the establishment of such a committee would l be of any great use in meeting the country’s difficulties. Labour had not taken part in the last investigations, putting aM the responsibility on the Government.
