The “Daily Mail” says: “In order to inspect oil-electric diesel-engined locomotives that are capable of drawing nine hundred passengers at a qipeed of seventy miles hourly, the President of the Board of Trade, Rt. Hon. W. C. Runciman, visited Armstrong Whitworth’s works at Newcastle. He will report oil the prospects to Right Hon. Mr MacDonald'.

The engines can be utilised both day and nio-ht- continuously. One that has been tested for six months ran for twenty-five thousand miles and worked for seventeen hours daily, and its total fuel and lubricating cost was £B7.
