The Waimangaroia Bowling Club opened its reason last week, and there was a large attendance of Westport district howlers present. For the opening of the Waiuta Bowling Club’s season on Sunday afternoon, the weather was fine. A rink from the Reef ton Club went out for the occasion. Mrs Greengrass played the first bowl, and Mr Greengrass, the president of the club, declared the season open.

The local bowling green is proving a popular rendezvous each evening. The green is in very good order and the fine weather is allowing play each evening, members atending in , good force and the scene is always an interesting one. The first round for the singles championship is now in progress and some good games have resulted. Play in this round must be finished by Saturday

Considerable interest is being taken in the Hokitika branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association by ex-Service-men, and the membership roll is increasing in a steady manner. The benefits to be derived therefrom are evident, and the men are keen to participate in these. At last evening’s meeting of the local executive an application for enrolment was received from an ex-member of the United States forces, but, according to instructions from headquarters, this is only available to members of British Units. ExServicemen of other Allied forces, however, are eligible for honorary membership, which was granted to the applicant in question.

Messrs W. and P. Ryan, of Westport received news of the death of their sister, Mrs Moroney, aged 49 at Auckland on Sunday.
