BETTER SHIPPING FACILITIES,

'Composed of traders interested in the shipment of' Australian produce to Manchester, a Manchester-Australten shipment committee' has been formed, stated a letter from Captain W. J. Wade, representative for Australia and New Zealand of the Port of Manchester, in a letter which came before the "Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening. The committee had elected an executive composed of one member from each trade with the idea of -ascertaining what Australian commodities were coming to Manchester from other ports, he stated. A representation of thp Wool Federation, Bradford, Was at the last meeting, and the suggestion was that importers would be anxious to obtain shipments through Manchester, which iis the nearest and cheapest port for Bradford. “Since fairly regular shipments had been possible from New Zealand ports to Manchester, imports of butter and cheese have increased steadily,” Captain Wade said. The committee very definitely condemns the practice of. sending odd ships to Manchester because it must bo remembered that Manchester requires produce not to put into her stores to gamble with, but to be put into imm edible consumntion, and the committee is pressing for a.' minimum soiling of one ship a month to Manchester for a. trial period of six months,” the lo'" 4 "’' r "'" r ' l, ’ rln s.
