RENOVATIONS AND RENEWAL. CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. The following matters affecting. West Coast schools were dealt with at this morning’s meeting of the - Canterbury Education Board: —ln response to the Arahura committee’s application and on the recommendation of the foreman, it was resolved to sanction an expenditure of £55 on the carrying out of the most urgent work applied for, viz.— (a) Renewal of verandah floor; renewal of principals in roof of one room and provision of a flat ceiling, (b) Jacking up and re-piling of sunken eastern wall; provision of new floor joists and floor, (c) Provision of three vent windows over verandah to provide erd’s ventilation. (d) Provision of a concrete urinal ■with drain leading therefrom. A proposal to dispose of the reserve 'at* Harihari was referred to the chairman of the board for report. It was resolved that in January fencing material to the value of £l2 5s be supplied to the Hokitika, committee for enclosing the recently improved school reserve. It was reported by Mr H. J. Bignell that arrangements had been made by the Rewanui committee for the. eree* tion of a shelter shed at the school and that the board’s liability would not exceed the .amount granted (£10). The Wataroa committee wrote applying for a grant of £3 10s for repairing the tennis court at the school at an estimated cost of £9, towards which it had raised the sum of £5. Application declined'.
