CONFERENCE IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, November 3,

'Forty delegates, representing fifty unions .affiliated to the Alliance of Labour or the Trades and Labour (Council and unemployed association, met in conference to-day to discu s the situation caused by the amendments made last session to the Arbitration Act. In a circular convening the meeting it stated that some unions, in the Conciliation Council, had agreed tc '.reduced wages, longer hours, and loss of conditions that had taken years t 0 gain. In order to avoid this, it was essential that there should bo a complete understanding for the future. The conference would also dismiss ways of improving industrial organisation.

It was decided to set up a committee to co-operate with all unions for the purpose of resisting the wage reducing policy of the • employers ’federation.
