WEDDING BELLS

SUTHERLAND—GREEN.

A wedtfirfg of considerable interest took place at St. James’ Church, Waiho, on Wednesday, October 26th. The beautiful church, decorated with arum lilies by friends of the bridle l , and with it's east window of clear glass framing the marvellous view of the Franz Joseph Glacier, formed a 'Perfect setting for this, the first wedding to be solemnised' within the walls. The contractirig parties were : Miss Elizabeth Mary Green, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Green, Tatare, and Mr Cyril Edward Sutherland, second son of Mr and Mrs W, H. •Sutherland, Papanui. The bride was clad in ,a beautiful dress of white satin with overbodice of lace and wore a veil of hand worked net. She carried a •cluster of arum lilies. Her sister, Miss Josie Green, who was. dressed in a charming frock of powder blue georgette with bat and shoes to match and • carried a beautiful 'bouquet of yellow tulips, attended her as bridesmaid. Two little nieces of the bride, Joyce McCormack and Olive Gibb, both clad in ankle length frocks of yellow organdi, acted as flower girls. Mr T. Green was best man. The bride was given away by her father. The Rev. R. Neweombe performed the ceremony. '

The Church was filled with relatives and friends and well wishers, among whom were some distinguished visitors to Waiho, including a judge of the Supreme' Court and tourists from as far afield as the Rocky Mountains. During the ceremony the bride was presented "with a Bible, the customary gift to the first, bride to be married in a Church. Interest was added to the gift on this occasion by the fact that the Bible given was an old family one printed as long ago' as 17/5. It had been provided by the previous vicar, the Rev. A. K. Warren. Aftler the ceremony relatives of the bride and bridegroom 'were entertained .by the parents of the bride at their residence. Mrs Green, wearing a black satin frock received her guests. The mother of the bridegroom wore a frock of floral crepe de chine. Later in the afternoon the happy couple left by motor for their honeymoon.

Guests, present included Mr and Mrs T. Wallace (Harihari), Mr and Mr= H. Levctt fHarihari), Mr and Mrs W. Levett (Harihari). Mrs Wallace (Kokatahi), Mr and 1 Mrs P. McCormack (Waiho), Mr and Mrs J as. Green (Evans’ 'Creek), Mr and Mrs J. Gibb (Tatare). Mrs Thomas (Shirley), and Miss E. Green,

In the evening Mr and Mrs Green entertained a greet number of friends at a dance in the Memorial Hall. Waiho. a very enjoyable evening being spent by all present.
