MILITARY TRAINING
VOLUNTEER SCHEME SUCCESSFUL .NOT PLAY AT SOLDIERS. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WAirUKURAU, October 15. The week’s training of the First Battalion, Hawkes Bay Regiment, was concluded with battle practice. The operations were watched by MajorGeneral W. L. H. Simclair-Burgess, G.0.C., N.Z. military forces, Colonel F. Symon and Lieut.-Colonel R. F. Gambrill, officer commanding the regiment. Addressing the territorials the MajorGeneral said he believed the new voluntary scheme was proving satisiactory. “Remember you are not playing as soldiers,’* he said. “This ..real army of which you ai‘e part, in New Zealand’s only army.” Urging the recruits to keep up the standard required, he 'expressed gratification that Lieut.-Colonel G&mbri’l had consented to oanry on the command in which he had given every satisfaction.
