At the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday before Mr A. Naylor, ./.P., William George Muir was further remanded to appear at Greymouth on October 20th.

Tile death of Mrs Hamburg, wife of Mr John P. Hansbury cf Ross took place at the Greymouth Hospital at ail <«irly hour this morning, after a •lengthy illness. Ttfie deceased was ‘a native of Palmerston North and 49 years of age. She Was educated at Palmerston North and after completing her course was appointed pupil teacher, and taught there under Mr L. de Berry. Deceased had lived for twelve years in Ross and had won a large circle erf friends. She was a popular figure in church circles 'and was of a most lovable and charitable nature. Deep sympathy will he extended to the bereaved husband and son of eight years who are left to mourn their los/s.
Arrested in Mrckay Street, the previous evening, Joseph Ellison, 24 years ■of age, a native of Ireland, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday, before Mr A. Naylor, J.P., that 'at ‘Wallsend on October 12, he was found in possession of a dano'erouis weapon, to wit, a sawn off .22 rifle. Detective Sergeant T. E. Holmes, who in company with Constable J. Rodgers, of Brunner ton, arrested accused, asked for 'a remand till October 17. Asked if he wished to make application for bail, accused said lie was under the doctor and would require bail. The DetectiveSergeant said that the position was that accused was found in possession of a sawn-cff riflo, and this was regarded by the police as rather a serious miatter. He therefore asked that a fairly substantial bail be fixed. Bail was "ranted, self £3O and one surety of £SO.
