FATAL t!UN ACCIDENT. SON OF LATE SIR M. POMARE. (By Telegraph—Pertreu AttocmUon', FOXTON, June 10. ‘ A shooting accident, resulting in the death of Tertaere- Pomare, a single man, aged 26, the eldest son of the late Sir Maui and Lady Pomare, of Lower Hutt, occurred at Devil’s Elbow four miles up the Manawatu River from Foxton, this morning, The deceased set out in a boat with a shot gun, to pick up eel baskets. Later a Foxton resident, who was collecting fire wood discovered his body alongside the boat, which was pulled into the bank.

The deceased had evidently been in the act of pulling the fully-loaded shotgun from the bottom of the boat, when the hammer of the right barrel caught f and discharged the cartridge. The pellets entered his cliect, throat and face. Death was instantaneous. Pomare, was visting relatives here.

CHILD KILLED BY LORRY. ' AUCKLAND, June 10. Fatal injuries were received by June Lillian Draper, aged six years, who- resided with her parents at Nelson Street, as the result of being knocked down by a motor lorry in Nelson Street this morning. The accident occurred near the intersection. With another child, the girl was playing near wooden railings. It is stated that the child ran under the, railings as the motor-lorry was proceeding north. She was struck by the back wheels, and death wa,s instantaneous.

MAN’S NARROW ESCAPE. DEATHRRSTON, June 10. A Western Lake farmer, Mr A. H. Ashdown, had a remarkable escape from serious injury when hie car crashed through the fence at the approach to Cox’s bridge, near Fcatherston. the accident was caused by the driver, who had been at the wheel for some hours, being overcome by 'deep. One of tlie rails pierced the windshield and just passed over the driver’s shoulder and out of the back of the hood. The car finally came to rest upeide down, jii the creek bed. It was. badly damityvcd. .Apart From a slight cut on the mu' and a. few minor bruises, Mr Ashdown escaped unhurt.
