TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian”, for week ending June 4, 1907.)

Arahura Dairy.—The Arahura dairy factory expects to close down at the ,encl of this week. They have had - a most successful season, and the balance sheet .should show a substantial profit. It is pleasing to note that the settlers of the Wanganui and Watarua districts intend following in the footsteps of their northern friends, and negotiations are pending for the establishment of- factories at both mentionplaces. Personal.—Among the visitors from South Westland who are up on business connected with the Assessment Court are Messrs George Scott Robinson, M. Sullivan, E. Ryan, A. 0. Scott, and Robert Pemmington. Kokitahi.—An enjoyable concert and ball was held at the Longford Hall on Wednesday evening in aid of the school piize fund. . The following contributed items to an enjoyable programme :—Misses M. Karnback, Mona Webster, Elsie Diedrich, M. O’Brien, Jessie Woolhouee, May Woolhouse, Ruby Fleming, Nelly Woolhouse Ruby Knyvett, and Johnstone, and Messrs Hawkins and Morris and Masters L. Woolhouse, J. Diedrich, H. Lyes, S. Graham, L. Diedrich, M, Wallace, J. Woolhouse, J. Fleming. The concert was followed by a dance, music being played by Mr H. Hawkins, while Mr J. Webeter acted as M.C, Stafford.—*Thp monthly meeting of the Stafford School Committee was held op Friday when there were .present:—Messrs H. W. Sandle (chairman), J. F. Byrne, R. Thompson, F. Martini, E. Turner and W. Mitchell, junr. (Imn. sec.) The head teacher reported that the number on the roll for the month was 31. The resignation of Mr Matjer (head teacher), wad received with regret. Rirnu Miners’ 'Association.—The Riniu Miners’ Association held its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. Present Messrs Hartwigsen (president), Boyd, P. Webster, Restano, TJpjohn and Jack. Application..; from John Boyd and party for extended claim, and from Delin and party for a special claim were granted. An application by Messrs Shannon and Willoughby to sink a shaft at Back Creek was held over.
