The Guardian And Evening Star, with which is incorporated the West Coast Times SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 1932. TO-DAY’S POLL.

Pom.tng is taking place to-day in New South Wales, and tho greatest poss.hle interest in tho outcome is being taken in all parts of Australia, in New Zealand and in place,* further afield. The result should ho coming through by wireless late to-night, and will he it waited with interest by many people world wide. The election is being fought out on decisive lines. The Lang Government, wthicli was d»;mis'sed from office by the Governor, Sir Philip Game, a few weeks ago, following their failure to observe the law of the country, had for many months past placed New South Wales in a most unenviable position. Many of the proposals brought forward by Mr Lang and his party were of an extraordinary nature, and had caused a great upheaval in the Mother State, of Australia. Following the dismiesal of Mr Lang, a new Government was appointed with Mr Stevens as the head, and his party at once announced they were going to appeal the country for an expression of support, and the election to-day » the outcome. The election fight has been a short one, but has been fought very keenly by both sides who have used the wonders .of wireless to . a great extent, thereby enabling their proposals to be heard by millions nightly, whereas in the past only hundreds could hear them. The opponents of Mr Lang have joined hands in the fight against him and personal support to their campaign Inns even being given by the newly appointed Premier of Victoria, who lias been assisting with speeches during the past week. New South Wales bas within its borders almost tw;o fifths of the whole population of Australia and her wealth is in proportion, so that the outcome of to-day’s polling i,s of special interest as it will have a decided effect on the politics of the ! other States. The electors have had ! the experience of the Lang Government and the policy they stood for. In spite of all that has happened in the past months, Mr Lang has a large following, and they are putting up a great fight. The programme put forward is an amazing one,, hut it has put up against it the whole of tho forces of moderate opinion, who have united to fight against them - The decision is now being made and the electors of New South Wales have the full opportunity when casting their votes of giving voice for or against tho policies propounded. The result will be awaited with great interest
