LQXDOX, Feb, 27. >\ At Oxford sports, in i lie half mile, Mansey, of Sydney was second, and ‘J‘ in the mile Lovelock of New Zealand was second and Mahony of Queensland third. OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS. TEAMS FOR N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS DUNEDIN, February 28. The Otago Athletic . Championships were- decided to-day at Carisbrook, in a steady downpour of rain. Most of the performances were excellent under t-lie conditions. A decided impresison was made by A. A. Cameron, of Oanmni, who won the long jump; hop, step and jump, and the high jump, without being extended. The ground was sodden, but in the long jump he did 22 feet 101 inches; in the high jump 5 feet 6 inches, after which he retired, having beaten all others; and in the hop, step and jump he covered 46 feet 7} inches. Tlie 100yds. was run in 10 3-ssecs bp M. J. Pearce, the winner putting up a very fine performance under the conditions. The finest race of the day was the ■ 880yds., which was won by L. C. MeLachlan in 2 mills 4 secs. Judging by the form of the runners, they would certainly have broken two minutes had the track been in good condition. The 440vds. was won by T. Pickering, of Invercargill, lute of Wellington, who galloped home by a yard in 53 secs. J. G. Barnes won the mile in 4.38 4-5 secs, coming to light with a wonderful sprint 50 yards from home. The New Zealand champion, G. S. Cabot, won both the half and one mil© walks comfortably. The following team lias been selected to represent Otago at the New Zealand Championships at Auckland: A. A. Cameron (hop, step and jump, long jump, high jump and discus); J. O. Manson (120vd,s and 440yds hurdles); G. S. Cabot (half and one mile walks) ; J. G. Barnes (one and three miles); ,T. G. Leokie (hammer throw and discus) ; ,T. C. McLachlan (880yds and 440.vds); E. A. Taylor (880yds and 440yds); A. L. Price (440yds); and Miss It. Grant (100yds ladies). One cyclist has yet to be picked as conditions forbade the holding of the cycling events.
