ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES

FATAL, INJURIES. (By Telegraph—Per Pres' Association ) HAMILTON, February 27. Fatal injuries were sustained by a cyclist, John William Thomson, aged twenty years, of Re 'Rapa, who was knocked down by a. motor-lorry on the Main South Road at Horoiiu last evening. When admitted to hospital Thomson was suffering from severe head injuries and a broken leg. Ho died early this morning.

MOTOR CYCLISTS INJURED, MASTER-TON, Fel>. 23. A crash helmet saved the life of T, Morgan, of Gfeytown, whop competing at the motor sports on Opuki racecourse on Saturday, In the concluding event, Morgan, rounding the top bent, mistook the turning in a cloud of dust, and crashed into the railing which was ripped for about thirty feet, the machine then shot across the track and crashed, Morgan being thrown clear. The following cyclist, 0. Lundieus, of Palmerston North, hit Morgan, receiving a fractured ar.kle. Morgan’s injuries were concussion, severe facial injuries, and had bruises on the body. Both were taken to the Mastertou Hospital. The machines were badly damaged.

CAR FATALITY. GISBORNE, Feb. 28. Angus Nicholson, 38, a farmer of Ngatapa was killed an Saturday night. The lights of a car driven by bis son, failed, and the car struck the side of the bridge and thence crashed into a telegraph pole. Mr Nicholson senr. had his skull fractured, and B. Finlavson who was in a back seat sustained a slight concussion. The driver was not seriously injured.
